Saint Peter's Prep
HAP Program
Thank you and your son for taking an interest in our summer HIGHER ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM (HAP). This is an academic program designed to help boys of good character increase their English, Math, and Writing skills in the hope that they will be better prepared for the future. Your son is eligible as a candidate if you permit him to apply.
HAP will run from Tuesday, June 27, through Friday, July 28. The program will be held at Saint Peter's Prep and include academic courses in the morning. There will be various sports in the afternoons and then "Option Courses." These options may include such classes as Space Exploration, Historically Accurate Movies, Super Humans, Sports Literature, etc. Each day starts at 8:45 and ends at 2:00.
Our teachers will be members of the Prep faculty, teachers from other high schools, and carefully chosen college students. Your son will also have a HAP tutor attending St. Peter's to help him with his work.
We consider it a privilege and an honor to serve your son if you give us the opportunity. Please be aware that your son is still only a candidate at this early stage and is competing with many other boys. Before deciding, we need all the information, including his HAP Entrance Exam (April 15, 9:30 A.M.). We will not be able to accept every boy who applies. Your son will be notified of the results by early June.
IMPORTANT
• Once you receive an application, please fill it out and either give it to your son's teacher in a sealed envelope (to be sent to us with his teacher's report) or mail it directly to me at: St. Peter's Prep. 144 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302, or email to irvinej@spprep.org by the March 31.
Your son must write a personal composition (about 150 words) telling his reasons for wanting to attend our program and explaining his goals for the future.
Please do not force your son to attend HAP. We have found that it must be a boy's own choice if he is to give his best effort.
• The Higher Achievement Program Entrance Exam will be given on Saturday, April 15 at 9:30 a.m. The boys must report to O'Keefe Commons (Saint Peter's Prep cafeteria) with a #2 pencil. The boys will be dismissed by 12:00 p.m.. Please remember this date because your son will not be sent a reminder!
• If you have any questions, please call 201-547-6389 or email Irvinej@spprep.org.
